Fun fact #1: Minnesota has over 500 golf courses.
Fun fact #2: Minnesota historically ranks at or near the top in golfer participation in the USA. The Minnesota Golf Association’s research found that 31% of Minnesota’s household-population play golf. Approximately 700,000 residents call themselves golfers.
Safe to say Minnesota is a golf state. To celebrate the land of 10,000 lost golf balls, we created the Minny Golf design.
Like most of our designs, Minny Golf is simple and bold. The loon is the state bird of Minnesota and has a couple of elements that make it special.
First, to reinforce the fact that the loon is the state bird, we added a simplified icon of the state of Minnesota on the breast of the loon in the center of the design. It was simplified to match the style of the loon illustration so that it didn’t stand out too much.
Second, the dots on the wings represent the dimples on a golf ball. The stripes signify the grooves on the head of a golf club. These elements are subtle but add to the story of the design.
The last thing to talk about is color. Black was an obvious choice because loons are black and white. But blue was chosen for 2 reasons: it is the color of the state flag and people love to golf under sunny blue skies.
